Scale-weight were an important component of economic life in ancient times. Coins and weights considerably facilitated commercial activity. The present study examines the entire known corpus of 598 late Second Temple period (Early Roman period) stone scale-weights from the Land of Israel, many of which were found in Jerusalem. This is the largest corpus of its kind of any period from the Land of Israel. The majority of these weights are from systematic archaeological excavations, giving importance to their provenance.
