Tyndale New Testament commentaries, v.12: Colossians and Philemon, c.1-2
The author shows that the Epistle to the Collossians is essentially Christ centered. Paul, faced with the spread of false teaching, turns believers' mind and heart to the Person and work of Christ, with whose glory he himself is so taken up. For this reason the Epistle has a message for the Chruch in every age, and possibly especially for our own day. Amid all the cross-currents of thinking and practice in the church at large, there is need for a firm reassertion of the Lordship of Christ, who alone is Head of the Church, and whose word must be the final authority.
